Wearable technology is all the rage, but the craze goes beyond connected eyewear such as Google Glass. Designers are creating timepieces, apparel, accessories and fitness wear that can do everything from monitor your heart rate to charge your smartphone. Here’s a look at some of the haute trends and concepts in wearable technology.

Wearable Watch

Huawei Band is a clean and elegant wearable watch that comes in three different colours: black, white, and cream. More than just a tech accessory, Huawei Band can help you monitor daily activities and provide real-time feedback when you need it most. Even while resting, the Huawei Band is able to monitor your sleep and compare your sleep across a week or month. The PMOLED touch screen is highly durable and scratch resistant which proves to be a study companion particularly to someone who is active in sports. A simple motion of your hand activates the 1.06-inch touch screen to give you timely feedback instantly.

Huawei Band is a live calendar that provides updates on your incoming invites, calls, reminders and alarms to allow you to stay on track of your tasks without forgetting them. Messages, incoming calls, reminders, and alarms can be viewed with a simple glance.

Wearable Jacket

Traveling can either be your best friend, or your worst nightmare. So Live Comfy decided to do something about that to make it tolerable for everyone. No more neck pillows, blankets, and tangled headphone cords. The air system utilizes air suspension and responsive materials to gently cradle one’s entire head. Individually designed air chambers conform to the shape of your head, providing even weight distribution and reducing pressure points. The Live Comfy travel jacket incorporates a bluetooth enabled smart pump that not only inflates air chambers surrounding your head in the hood, but can be done so with your phone via the Android or iOS app. The App features also provide built-in audio tracks to help drown out ambient noise.

Wearable Air-Conditioning

Researchers at the Technical Research Centre of Finland have developed a mass production method for wearable air conditioning technology. The system — called Alykangas — consists of microscopic channels of plastic that can be integrated into garments, and pumped with hot or cold liquid, enabling the wearer to cool down or heat up. The channels can be embedded either into hard or soft plastics, depending on the purpose of use. Currently they are developing a smart fabric which can be used as “personalised air conditioning” in outdoor clothing. In this way, those living in the tropical climate would be able to benefit from this technology and avoid being dehydrated easily with the wearable pumping cooling liquid throughout the body.

Wearable Baby Band

The first wearable gadget based on the Intel Edison chip is a onesie that monitors your baby’s breathing and sends audio and data to your smartphone. Designed for today’s new parents, the Mimo keeps you connected to your baby no matter where you are – whether you’re across the room or across the world. Staying connected to your baby has never been more wireless. The Mimo baby kimono by Rest Devices is a wraparound one size with sensors — the green stripes across the front seen in the image above — that monitor your baby’s breathing, sleep quality, sleep activity, respiration, body position, and skin temperature, powered by the Edison chip hidden away in the removable green plastic turtle. The turtle itself is water-resistant, chew-safe, and too big to pose a choking hazard. Parents will be kept notified of changes in their baby’s activity – including irregular breathing, wake-ups, and roll-overs – through custom alerts, delivered right to their smart device.
