Designed by Emanuele Magini for Campeggi, it’s just a simple chair with net wrapped around the legs. While dead easy, that little tweak just turned the chair into a proper goal — one that I’m optimistic can make for hours of fun (and broken stuff) with a soccer ball and lots of imagination.

Presented at the Milan Design Week 2012, the Lazy Football Chair is made from metal and dressed in plain white paint. The distance between the front legs of the chair has been widened to accommodate the encouraged gameplay, with a metal base connecting all of the legs for increased stability (so the chair doesn’t fall off when you hit a goal too hard). The creator encourages a seated game of 1-on-1, where you each try to kick a ball into the other person’s goal.

As useful as Google Hangouts and Skype are for staying in touch, the screens that divide people while chatting remain a barrier to intimate conversation. Getting us one step closer to more realistically imitating the familiarity of an in-person encounter, researchers at Queen’s University have invented a life-sized, 3-D video conferencing pod that enables users to see the person with whom they are talking in holographic form.

The rendering is so life-like, it’s almost as if the participants are chatting together on a street corner. The device’s cylindrical body is irrefutably unsightly for home environments, but expect future iterations to be infused with a more elegant design sensibility—hopefully, one on par with Jem’s.

Threadflip is pioneering a new social shopping experience by offering women a simple way to convert their closets into a dynamic boutique-like experience, connecting buyers with sellers, and capturing the collaborative energy of shopping with friends.

Essentially, it is a social marketplace for buying, selling, and discovering new, unique, and pre-loved fashion. With a few clicks, users can upload images of pieces straight from their closet, and sell clothing, shoes, bags, and jewelry they no longer wear, creating a treasure trove of thousands of new pieces every day.

After you’ve foolishly walked away from your Land Rover to explore a mirage in the Arabian desert, you’ve found yourself lost. What to do?

Thank goodness for this survival guide that explains how to keep yourself alive with tips on dealing with scorching temperatures, building shelters, lighting a fire and so on. The best thing is: you can eat the book!

Actually the whole thing is a clever ad campaign by Y&R Dubai ad agency for Land Rover:

Y&R Dubai researched every indigenous animal and plant, people could encounter in the Arabian Desert and how they could be used to survive. They studied the topography of the region to guide people to safety. The agency used a reflective packaging similar to army rations, which could be used to signal for help, and bound the book with a metal spiral, which could be used for cooking. Finally, the agency even took an extra step so that in case of emergency, people could always EAT the book. It was made out of edible ink and paper, and it had a nutritional value close to that of a cheeseburger.

When turned on, the minimalistic machine’s laser-projected interface appears to brew the perfect cup o’ joe. Users make their selections by tapping the touch-activated icons that light up on the adjacent countertop, similar to a Bluetooth laser keyboard. The designers of Studio MEM developed the futuristic concept with a classic, retro coffee pot aesthetic in mind, yet ensured that it still meets the expectations of today’s tech-minded consumers.

Boxetti‘s most recent attempt is much like the original idea, but by integrating surrounding storage spaces (drawers, cabinets and closet area) the goal is less to ‘hide away’ the bed than it is to celebrate the modern modular nature of this dynamic sleeping unit. Murphy Beds started one of the longest and strangest trends in bedroom design: the concealed, fold-down wall bed concept.

In some ways, Like the other modules in the Boxetti furniture and interior design series, as much as possible is packed into an appealing, small and self-contained box, designed to save space and make installation as simple as setting the object in place. In this case, a double bed folds down, night stand folds out and wardrobe slides open all from the same side.Shelves, drawers and clothing rail are all neatly tucked in at appropriate heights around the central fold-out-bed piece.

As such, the entire unit would work well for someone with a small studio apartment space or in a living room as an extra ‘instant’ bedroom-on-demand for guests.

SPARX is a self-help computer programme for young people with symptoms of depression. The programme has been developed by a team of specialists in treating adolescent depression from the University of Auckand. The project was led by Associate Professor Sally Merry. Metia Interactive designed the software. Funding has been provided by the Ministry of Health.

In order to actively engage young people, SPARX uses a 3D fantasy game environment and a custom-made soundtrack. The programme teaches skills to manage symptoms of depression, in a self-directed learning format.

Young people learn cognitive behavioural therapy techniques for dealing with symptoms of depression (e.g. dealing with negative thoughts, problem-solving, activity scheduling, and relaxation). It can be used with minimal oversight.
