Project Tripod: Time-Lapse Photography

An Australian start-up – Project Tripod – has developed an app that captures pictures via a smartphone and takes a snapshot of a landmark or object over a period of time that allows people to view changes throughout that duration. The main secret though, lies in the app’s ability to perfectly align the snapped photos on a smartphone.

Project Tripod was born when Mr Jordan Knight had difficulty capturing on his smartphone the changing face of Barangaroo, the $6 billion Sydney construction monolith, on his morning walks. The app has a variety of uses beyond the construction industry.

Local councils can use the images to record degradation of assets over time or develop comparison shots of tourist sites for exhibitions, says Mr Knight. Project Tripod has a consumer and business version but what is powerful is the back-end engine for corporate users who have access to 0.5 terabyte of space.
